President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that NATO is the cheapest security guarantee. If Ukraine is not in the Alliance, if there is no financial support, then it will not be possible to hold off Russia's strikes without a million-strong army.
This is reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to an interview of the head of state with Bloomberg.
“At some point, everyone will admit that NATO is the cheapest security guarantee. If Ukraine is not in NATO, and we have before us a person who is sick with the desire to occupy us, if he has an army of one and a half million plus, then you will not be able to hold off unless you have an army of about a million,” the president said.
Zelensky noted that either our entire economy will work to maintain a million-strong army, or someone will jointly finance it. Therefore, he believes that NATO is the cheapest option.
According to the president, reducing the army by several times is exactly what Russian dictator Vladimir Putin and some other world leaders want. If the army is reduced by a factor of five or more, then the enemy's ability to occupy Ukraine will increase, and for Putin, these are dividends.
"That's why I'm saying, what are security guarantees? If it's just a piece of paper, then we won't sign another Budapest Memorandum," Zelenskyy summed up.
