Male students who refuse to complete basic military training may be expelled from universities. For men, both the theoretical and practical BZVP courses are mandatory.

This was announced by the press service of the Ministry of Defense, Chroniclers reports.

Basic Military Training is a military training program for students. It involves 300 academic hours and will be taught in the second year of study for university students, and in the first year for others.

The program will begin on September 1, 2025 and consists of two components:

  • the theoretical course (90 academic hours) will be held directly in educational institutions;
  • The practical course (210 academic hours) will be implemented in special training centers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The theoretical course will be taught to all students. The practical part must be completed by all men who are fit by health. Women who are fit by health will be able to join the practical classes exclusively voluntarily. To do this, they will need to register with the CCC and the SP.

"The refusal of a male student who is recognized as fit for military service to undergo practical basic training is grounds for his expulsion from the educational institution in accordance with the legislation," the Ministry of Defense emphasized.

The Ministry of Defense notes that experienced retired military personnel, war and military service veterans will be involved in teaching.

During the training, students will receive basic knowledge in the following disciplines:

  • tactics;
  • home medical care;
  • psychological preparation;
  • the basics of military discipline;
  • international humanitarian law;
  • skills in handling small arms.
