Clogged pipes? Learn how to properly use a plumbing cable for effective cleaning! Simple tips will help you quickly solve the problem without unnecessary effort.
Clogs in drainage systems most often occur in siphons. Therefore, before using a plumbing cable, it is necessary to remove the siphon and rinse it with warm water. This solves the problem in most cases. If this is not enough, then a cable will come in handy.
Before use, carefully inspect the cable to ensure that there are no defects, damage or tears. A piece of tool left in the pipe can make the situation much more difficult. In addition, the cable must be lubricated before use to avoid damage to the pipes.
When cleaning, first prepare your workspace: lay an oilcloth on the floor and put on rubber gloves. Then unscrew the siphon, remove the sealing plug and carefully lower the end of the cable into the drain of the sink, bathtub or toilet.
The tool is pushed into the pipe with one hand, while the other hand is constantly rotating the cable clockwise. As the tool is pushed, the cable should be gradually unwound. When the cable encounters a blockage, the rotation will become more difficult, but it should be continued, gradually increasing the intensity.
If the cable is difficult to push through, it should be pulled out, cleaned and reinserted into the pipe. This will help break up the blockage. Once the blockage is removed, rotation will become easier. After breaking through the blockage, you should continue to rotate the cable for a while to completely break up the debris and prevent it from getting stuck in the rest of the pipe.
After completing the work, be sure to flush the pipes with hot water to remove all remaining clogs. After making sure that the problem has been eliminated, install the siphon in place. The cable should also be thoroughly rinsed, dried and lubricated with technical oil before storage.
