The signing ceremony took place in Washington, D.C., during a meeting between Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken. Blinken called the signing of the document an important milestone in U.S. relations.
"We are creating a US-Armenia Strategic Partnership Commission. It gives us the opportunity to expand cooperation in various areas: economic issues, security and defense, democracy, justice," Blinken said.
The Armenian Foreign Minister noted that the document covers many areas, such as strengthening economic and energy ties, communications, deepening cooperation in the field of defense and security, strengthening democratic institutions, promoting justice and the rule of law, developing innovations and high technologies, as well as expanding people-to-people contacts. Mirzoyan stressed that "based on shared values and mutual interests," relations between the two countries have developed significantly in recent years.
"They have reached a level where establishing a strategic partnership not only corresponds to existing realities, but is also necessary in the context of working in difficult geopolitical conditions," he added.
Also in September 2023 and July 2024, Armenia and the United States held joint Eagle Partner exercises.
