Even when they notice serious mental health problems, people are not too eager to see a psychiatrist, believing that they can do without a visit to a psychologist. Or they believe that it will go away on its own!
Such thoughts can be dangerous for the person themselves and those around them.
There are a number of symptoms in which a psychologist is powerless (unless, of course, he is a charlatan).
Don't be surprised if you hear: "You need to see a psychiatrist!" if you present the following complaints:
- persistent apathy;
- expressed aggression;
- uncontrolled feeling of anxiety;
- a sense of imminent danger;
- severe drowsiness;
- painful insomnia;
- persistent aversion to food;
- systematic overeating;
- causeless headaches, as well as abdominal and stomach pain;
- incomprehensible or strange sensations in the body;
- addictions have formed (gambling, drug addiction, etc.);
- cognitive impairment (problems with memory, attention, etc.);
- various phobias (for example, claustrophobia);
- obsessive states and thoughts;
- hallucinations;
- delusional states;
- causeless tearfulness;
- panic attacks;
- autoaggression;
- suicidal thoughts.
Important: Any of these symptoms is not in itself a marker of a particular mental illness, as it can be caused by other causes (for example, a physical illness).
Only a specialist can make an accurate diagnosis!
But, in any case, such symptoms indicate that not everything is in order with the person and he needs qualified help.
If you notice the above symptoms in yourself or your loved ones, do not postpone a visit to the doctor!
Many people spend years searching for the cause of insomnia, severe headaches, or sudden attacks of rapid heartbeat before realizing that the cause is psychological.
Unfortunately, a mentally ill person does not perceive the situation adequately. Therefore, it is their relatives who have to seek help from a psychiatrist or other specialists.
