He said this in a conversation with an Ukrinform correspondent on the sidelines of the PACE session, commenting on the results of the vote in the Assembly.
"I think that at this point this is a serious step, because there are only three months left until April. And this is the last deadline for the Georgian Dream (ruling party - ed.) to hear the Georgian people," Vashadze said, adding that "constitutionally, perhaps it's for the best that there are still three months to correct the situation."
According to him, representatives of the Georgian opposition have held many meetings with deputies in Strasbourg, and "the vast majority of them support our position."
According to Vashadze, it is necessary that external pressure on the Georgian authorities does not cease.
"The main thing is that this process of pressure has begun, plus sanctions have been added, and much further depends on our Western partners and their consistency," the politician said.
He also recalled that none of the Georgian oppositionists recognized the new parliament, and although they legally received mandates, they do not participate in the meetings and boycott its work. Therefore, the Georgian delegation to the PACE consists entirely of deputies of the "Georgian Dream" and specially "appointed" by them from their own ranks "pocket oppositionists."
"We recognize Salome Zurabishvili as the legitimate president, representing the interests of the Georgian people until the next elections are held. It is time for us, the opposition, to unite," Vashadze stressed.
