Three Israeli ministers resign in protest against Hamas deal

In Israel, the far-right Otzma Yehudit party announced that it was leaving the coalition, and three ministers resigned over the government's approval of a ceasefire agreement with Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

This is reported by the Times of Israel, Ukrinform reports.

Thus, Minister of National Security Itamar Ben-Gvir, Minister of Heritage Amichai Eliyahu, and Minister of Negev, Galilee and National Resilience Yitzhak Wasserlauf submitted their resignations to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and "from this moment on, the Otzma Yehudit party is not a member of the coalition," the party said in a statement.

In a letter to Netanyahu, the head of the Otzma Yehudit party, Ben Gvir, noted his "significant achievements" but complained about "an agreement to surrender to terror that crosses all ideological red lines."

The ceasefire is a “complete victory for terrorism,” Ben Gvir said. He added that the far-right has no intention of “working to overthrow the government,” but will vote “according to our worldview and our conscience” on ideological issues.

"We will not return to the negotiating table without a complete victory over Hamas and the full implementation of the goals of the war," he declared.

The party's statement also states that three more MPs "have submitted resignations from their positions in various committees to the coalition chairman."

Netanyahu later said the ceasefire would not begin until Israel received the names of the three hostages scheduled to be released on Sunday.

A senior Hamas official later said the terror group had sent Israel a list of hostages to be released on January 19.
