The eruption of Mount Ibu on Wednesday morning lasted about two minutes, according to Indonesia's volcanology agency, prompting authorities to raise the threat level in nearby areas to the highest.
Disaster management agency spokesman Abdul Muhari said the evacuation began late Wednesday night. About 13 residents of the area were evacuated primarily because of their proximity to the volcano. It is noted that XNUMX people live near the volcano.
Ibu's activity is part of a series of eruptions at various volcanoes in Indonesia, which are located on the Pacific "Ring of Fire," which includes 127 active volcanoes.
Last November, the Levotobi Laki-Laki volcano in Indonesia erupted several times, spewing volcanic ash up to 10 kilometers into the air, forcing the evacuation of thousands of people.
