Fico's political statement on restricting electricity exports "is equal to zero," says Czech Foreign Ministry
Ukraine's two neighbors — Poland and Romania — will not stop supplies, so the actions of Hungary and Slovakia are unimportant, the Czech Foreign Ministry said.
Pro-Russian Prime Minister of Slovakia Robert Fico tried to blackmail Ukraine with electricity supplies by stopping the transit of Russian gas, but most of the electricity that Ukraine imports comes from generating capacities in the Czech Republic and Germany. About this in an interview of Ukrinform said Vaclav Bartuška, Special Envoy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic for Energy Security.
The official emphasized that Fico's threats are "empty."
"The political statement that Prime Minister Fico made in December is zero. Because we have four European countries that border Ukraine, and at least two of them will not stop electricity supplies - Poland and Romania. What Slovakia and Hungary will do is not very important," Bartuška explained.
According to him, in 2022, all of Europe helped Ukraine with equipment to repair damaged energy infrastructure facilities, and spare parts also came from the United States.
Bartushka expressed his belief that the partners' solidarity with Ukraine will be maintained.
