Albanese's warning came against the backdrop of Elon Musk's growing political activity on the international stage.
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese warned Elon Musk against interfering in the country's upcoming elections, Politico reported on Tuesday, January 14.
“We have foreign interference laws in our country, and Australian elections are an Australian affair,” Prime Minister Anthony Albanese of the center-left Labor Party warned Musk in an interview with the Australian newspaper The Age.
Journalists point out that Musk has already had a noticeable impact on British politics by supporting a right-wing party. UK reforms, suggesting that he may soon start funding this party, supported the far-right An alternative for Germany in the upcoming early federal elections, criticized the Romanian court's decision to annul the country's elections due to alleged Russian interference.
“The tech billionaire, who has become one of Donald Trump’s most ardent supporters since last summer and has gained a place in the US president-elect’s inner circle, is trying to use his newfound political influence around the world,” the publication writes.
Musk has repeatedly clashed with the Australian government, calling government officials "fascists" last September for promoting legislation aimed at regulating misinformation on social media.
The Australian election will be held in May. The exact date has not yet been set.
At the same time, Musk is also not satisfied with a potential ally, the leader of the right-wing populist party Reform UK, Nigel Farage, because he supposedly "does not have the necessary skills."
