In Germany, unidentified drones are increasingly being spotted, which can be used for espionage and sabotage.

The German government said it had approved a plan that would allow the military to shoot down drones that are flying illegally "as a last resort," following several incidents of suspicious drones flying over key sites in Germany, DW reports.

"Security authorities have noticed that the number of reports of drone surveillance over critical infrastructure and military facilities in Germany is increasing," the German Interior Ministry said.

Home Secretary Nancy Fraser said drones could be used as tools for espionage and sabotage and pose a threat to critical infrastructure, adding that they had been used more frequently since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Feiser said that legislation should be passed that would allow the German military to take action “in the event of a serious threat — including, as a last resort, shooting down illegally flying drones.” She added that this would be in the interests of protecting critical infrastructure and would also show that Germany “will not be intimidated.”
