At around 4 a.m. local time, a fire broke out at a local oil refinery in the Krasnoarmeysky district of Volgograd. Local residents reported online that they heard an explosion.

Russian emergency services have confirmed that a fire broke out at the plant, but they claim that the cause of the fire was internal problems at the enterprise, not external influences.

"Unit No. 18 and two heat exchangers caught fire at the plant. Everything has been extinguished, there were no fatalities or injuries as a result of the incident, the exact causes of the fire are being established, but it is already known that the fire occurred as a result of an emergency situation that is in no way related to any external influence," the report says.
