The Japanese company is preparing to break into the North American electric car market with a new product - a small coupe-like SUV with an appearance similar to the 2021 Nissan Chill-Out concept. It will debut in 2026, Automotive News reports, UAmotors reports. This will be Mitsubishi's first electric car in the United States since the retirement of the i-Miev eight years ago.

What is known about the novelty

Insiders say that the new Mitsubishi electric crossover will be designed in the spirit of the Nissan Chill-Out. That is, it will be a crossover coupe with a sporty silhouette and a high seat. The production of the electric vehicle will be established in Japan, and sales in the US will start in the second half of 2026. Whether the model will appear outside the United States is still unclear.

The novelty will allow Mitsubishi to attract part of the audience of the "green" segment of the American market, which grew by 7,3 percent last year. The Chill-Out concept should become the progenitor of another model, but already under the Nissan brand, which introduced it. This will be the third generation Leaf. Leaf has been produced for almost 15 years, and the current second generation of the model has been produced since 2017.

The "third" Leaf is expected to transform from a hatchback into a crossover, receive an e-4orce installation and Chinese batteries, which will provide it with a significant range. The premiere is expected in 2025.
