The US intends to destroy the capabilities of the Houthi organization "Ansar Allah" and deprive it of resources.
US President Donald Trump has signed an executive order designating the Yemeni Houthis, whose official name is Ansar Allah, as a "foreign terrorist organization," the White House website reported.
“The policy of the United States is to work with our regional partners to destroy Ansar Allah’s capabilities and operations, deprive it of its resources, and thereby end its attacks on American personnel and civilians,” the statement said.
The document notes that the Iranian-backed Ansar Allah group has fired dozens of missiles at US Navy warships in the Red Sea since 2023. Thus, the Houthis "created a danger to American men and women in uniform."
The US accuses Ansar Allah representatives of shelling infrastructure in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Israel.
The Houthis have also attacked commercial vessels more than 100 times, killing at least four civilian sailors and forcing some of the Red Sea's commercial shipping to change routes, contributing to global inflation, the document said.
