US President-elect Donald Trump announced on Friday that he had ordered the main events on his inauguration day to be moved to the US Capitol building due to the forecast of record-low temperatures in Washington.
He wrote about this on his own page on the Truth Social network, Ukrinform reports.
"I have directed that the inaugural address — along with the prayer and other speeches — be held in the rotunda of the United States Capitol, as was arranged by Ronald Reagan in 1985, also due to the very cold weather," Trump said.
He noted that high-ranking guests would also be in the Congress building, and noted that the picture for the television audience from there would be a good view.
Trump explained that the forecast for Washington, D.C., with its freezing temperatures and gusty winds, poses a threat to ceremony guests and anyone else who will arrive on the National Mall in the capital. It also, he said, creates unsafe conditions for tens of thousands of law enforcement officers, first responders, police, K9 units and even horses.
"All other events will remain unchanged, including the Victory Rally at the Capital One Arena on Sunday at 15:00 p.m.," Trump added.
