Toyota Motor Company intends to settle the first 100 residents of a futuristic city at the foot of Mount Fuji in Japan this fall.

The Verge writes about this.

"The Japanese auto giant has updated the public on the progress of the $10 billion project, which is said to be a 'living laboratory' where people can live while testing futuristic designs. Toyota said it has completed the first phase of construction, with an official launch scheduled for 2025," the journalists write, reports Glavcom.

Initially, Woven City will consist mainly of employees of the automaker and their families, and the population is planned to increase to approximately 2000 people in the initial phase, Toyota said.

“This year, we will begin the relocation of residents, gradually implementing the Woven City concept,” said Toyota Chairman Akio Toyoda at a press conference in Las Vegas.

According to him, the company's plans are more than ambitious, and some of them have already been implemented.

“Woven City is more than just a place to live, work and play. It is a place where people can invent and develop a variety of new products and ideas. It is a ‘living laboratory’ where residents are willing participants, giving inventors the opportunity to freely test their ideas in a safe and real-world environment,” says Akio Toyoda.

Toyoda introduced the concept of a "living laboratory" five years ago when he was president of Toyota. He said the city would be completely eco-friendly and a real-life showcase for artificial intelligence, advanced robotics, self-driving cars and smart homes.
