The video sharing platform went down late on the evening of January 18.

TikTok is in the process of being restored after President-elect Donald Trump announced an extension of the company's sale, Bloomberg reports.

“We thank President Trump for providing the necessary clarity and assuring our service providers that they will not face any sanctions, bringing TikTok to over 170 million Americans and allowing more than 7 million small businesses to thrive,” the video platform said in a post.

The U.S. Supreme Court on Friday unanimously upheld a bipartisan law signed in April that required Chinese parent company ByteDance Ltd. to sell the wildly popular video app and technology companies that host or distribute TikTok in the United States, such as Apple Inc., Google and Oracle Corp., to stop doing so by Jan. 19. The law was designed for national security reasons.

Trump supported the law earlier this year but reversed course after suggesting that TikTok helped him reach young voters and ultimately win the election.

On Sunday, Trump said on social media that he would issue an executive order on Monday “to extend the period of time before the law’s prohibitions take effect so that we can make a deal to protect our national security.”

Trump, who will be sworn in at noon Monday, said he would seek a joint venture in which new American owners would buy 50% of the company and “keep it in good hands and keep it afloat.”
