Tesla's Cybertruck, an electric pickup truck with a futuristic design, has run into legal trouble in the UK. Police have begun impounding vehicles of this model because they have not received an official permit to operate, Electrek reports.
Why was the Tesla Cybertruck declared illegal?
Manchester Police have seized at least one Tesla Cybertruck that was being used on public roads, mainly because the vehicle did not have the necessary safety certification to operate in the UK.
European and British vehicle certification rules are often much stricter than in the U.S. Tesla has failed to provide evidence that the Cybertruck meets safety standards, particularly regarding potential pedestrian hazards, which was a major argument for the ban.
Incident features
The seized Cybertruck was registered and insured abroad, but the driver was a resident of the United Kingdom. Police officials explained that the vehicle was being operated illegally due to the lack of a permit for use on public roads.
Journalists also noted that Tesla has not officially delivered the Cybertruck to the UK. Only a few units were brought into the country for demonstration purposes.
