The updated 2026 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid will go on sale this fall with 194 horsepower.
Subaru first showed off its new hybrid powertrain last summer, ushering in a new era for the company's iconic boxer engine, now complemented by an electric motor. The 2026 Crosstrek Hybrid is set to go on sale in the U.S. this fall, Motorcar reports.
The Japanese brand has specially developed a naturally aspirated 2,5-liter boxer four-cylinder engine for the hybrid series, which is combined with an electric motor and continuously variable transmission. This will allow the Crosstrek to use either the gasoline or electric motor for driving, but you shouldn't expect much power from the small 1,1-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery located under the floor of the trunk.
The engine produces 162 horsepower, and the hybrid system increases it to 194 hp. The new transmission does not interfere with Subaru's all-wheel drive system, standard on all Crosstrek hybrids, and does not violate the crossover's 221 mm ground clearance.
The Crosstrek Hybrid debuts with two new exterior colors: Sand Dune Pearl and Citron Yellow Pearl. It also gets special dark gray 18-inch alloy wheels. The automaker will release fuel economy, pricing and equipment details closer to the model’s launch.
In America, the 2025 Crosstrek crossover starts at $27. Obviously, the hybrid will cost more. It should also offer better fuel economy than the non-hybrid 230-liter version.
