Secretary of State Marco Rubio has ordered the suspension of US visas for officials from Colombia, which has refused to accept planes carrying deported migrants.

This is stated in a statement by the press service of the US Department of State, Ukrinform reports.

"After President (of Colombia – ed.) Petro refused to accept two repatriation flights that he had previously agreed to, Secretary of State Rubio ordered the immediate suspension of visa issuance at the Consular Section of the U.S. Embassy in Bogota," the document states.

The travel restrictions to the United States will affect Colombian officials and individuals who, according to the US side, are responsible for refusing to accept flights carrying deported migrants. This decision also applies to family members of such officials.

The statement emphasizes that visas will not be issued until Colombia fulfills its obligations to accept its own citizens deported from the United States.

"The State Department will continue to ensure the implementation of the America First program and will not back down when it comes to protecting national security interests," the foreign ministry said.
