Fico expects new gas supplies from Russia.

The Russian company "Gazprom" will ensure the supply of gas to Slovakia via alternative routes after the termination of transit through Ukraine.

The prime minister of Slovakia, Robert Fico, announced this during a meeting of the parliamentary committee on European affairs, SITA writes.

Fico noted that the country has already filled its gas storages and will keep the existing reserves as long as possible. He emphasized that new supplies will be made on the basis of the current agreement with Gazprom.

"Gazprom announced that it will supply this gas in another way," the Slovak prime minister added.

At the same time, the CEO of Slovakia's largest state energy supplier SPP, Vojtech Ferenc, said that the country has active contracts with other suppliers such as BP, ExxonMobil, Shell, ENI and RWE.

"These agreements are flexible, so we can increase both the volume of gas supplies and their terms of validity," explained Ferenc.

It will be recalled that the transportation of Russian gas through the territory of Ukraine stopped on January 1 due to the expiration of the transit agreement between Kyiv and Moscow. Despite this, Robert Fico has repeatedly expressed interest in maintaining Russian gas supplies via the Ukrainian route, claiming economic losses for Slovakia due to its termination.

In his statements, Fico also expressed dissatisfaction with Ukraine's actions. During a recent visit to Moscow, he held talks with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, after which he issued a series of threats against Kyiv. In particular, he announced the possibility of stopping the supply of electricity to Ukraine, which is experiencing an energy crisis due to Russia's constant attacks on the energy system.
