January is nearing its end and motorists are gradually beginning to prepare for the coming spring.
CarBuzz experts have revealed how to properly "reboot" your car after winter testing. They have named 10 key steps that you need to take in the next month to get your car in perfect condition by March.
1. Thorough washing
In winter, dirt and corrosion-causing reagents accumulate on the underbody and wheel arches. Treat hard-to-reach areas with detergent, then rinse thoroughly with water. Don't forget the engine compartment and interior.
2. External examination
After cleaning, inspect the body for chips, cracks, and damage to the plastic. Check the condition of the wipers, rubber seals, and tires. Pay attention to cracks in the tread and even wear.
3. Brake pad condition
Check the thickness of the pads. If it is less than 6 mm, you should consider replacing them. Winter use may have left traces of corrosion or debris on them.
4. Suspension check
Inspect the suspension for leaks and rust. Check the shock absorbers by doing the “wobble test” – the car should stabilize after one swing.
5. Underhood space
Rubber hoses and belts are susceptible to damage from temperature changes. Squeeze the hoses: they should be elastic but not too soft. Inspect the belts for cracks and wear.
6. Fluid replacement
Check the oil, brake fluid, coolant and power steering fluid levels. Top up or replace as necessary.
7. Checking the tire pressure
As the weather warms up, tire pressure can change. Make sure it is within the recommended range. If you have been using winter tires, it is time to switch to summer tires.
8. Battery and electricity
Cold weather can weaken the battery. Check its charge and the operation of all electrical components, including lights, windows and heating.
9. Replacing filters
Cabin and air filters can become clogged with dirt and dust. Spring is the perfect time to replace them to improve cabin air quality and engine performance.
10. Short test drive
Take a test drive to make sure the brakes, suspension, and steering are working properly. Listen for sounds and check for any strange odors.
