China has “repeatedly stressed” the need to adhere to three principles in war: “not expanding the battlefield, not escalating hostilities, and not inciting fire.”
Chinese leader Xi Jinping held a telephone conversation with European Council President Antonio Costa. During the conversation, the Chinese leader outlined China's position on a peaceful settlement of the Russian Federation's war against Ukraine through negotiations. This was reported by the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday, January 14.
"Xi Jinping explained in detail China's principled position of adhering to a peaceful settlement and promoting negotiations," the report said.
The head of the PRC emphasized that China and Europe have no fundamental conflicts of interest or geopolitical contradictions, and they are partners who seek mutual achievements.
Xi Jinping assured Costa that China considers Europe an important pole in a multipolar world and supports European integration and the EU's strategic autonomy.
"The more serious and complex the international situation, the more China and Europe should adhere to the original intention of establishing diplomatic relations, strengthen strategic communication, enhance strategic mutual trust, and adhere to a partnership stance," he noted.
