Xi Jinping discusses war in Ukraine with European Council President

During a telephone conversation with European Council President António Costa, Chinese President Xi Jinping discussed the Russian-Ukrainian war and explained China's position on its commitment to a peaceful settlement through negotiations.

"During the telephone conversation, both sides exchanged views on the situation in Ukraine. Xi Jinping explained China's principled position, which is to adhere to a peaceful settlement and promote negotiations," the Foreign Ministry noted.

Xi also assured Costa that China considers Europe an important pole in a multipolar world and supports European integration and the EU's strategic autonomy.

"China and the European Union have no fundamental conflicts of interest or geopolitical contradictions and are partners seeking mutually beneficial cooperation. The two sides should jointly uphold the political foundation of their relations, promote their development, and make greater contributions to maintaining international stability," the Chinese leader said.
