"The State Security Service is conducting an investigation, as this may be a serious crime directed, at least in part, against the interests of Sweden," law enforcement officials said.

SEPO added that they are working closely with the Coast Guard, Armed Forces, and the Police Department on this matter.

As Ukrinform reported, an underwater fiber-optic cable belonging to the Latvian State Radio and Television Center was damaged in the Baltic Sea on Sunday.

Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson said his country would help Latvia with the investigation into the alleged sabotage.
