The vote took place on Wednesday, Ukrinform's own correspondent reports.
The candidate was supported by 56 lawmakers, including three Democrats. 42 senators spoke out against it.
During the previous hearings, Democrats sought to hear from Zeldin about his stance on climate change, given that Donald Trump has often denied the phenomenon and called it a big hoax. Zeldin, on the one hand, confirmed to lawmakers that he believes climate change is a reality, but at the same time he supported Trump's position on the "hoax."
One of the new EPA chief's top tasks is expected to be a review of the "Threat Findings," the document the agency uses to determine the human health effects of greenhouse gases, which serve as the basis for regulating emissions into the atmosphere.
