At the end of 2024, the Russian Federation officially added the "Belgorod People's Republic" (BPR) to the register of terrorist organizations.

The corresponding entry appeared in the Unified Federal List of organizations that, according to Russian law, are recognized as terrorist.

The document was published on the official website of the FSB, Russian media reported.

“The Belgorod People’s Republic” gained popularity as a meme created by Ukrainians. It jokingly referred to the “BNR” as something that should be annexed to Ukraine, similar to the “DPR” and “LPR” annexed by Russia. This meme even has its own page on the Ukrainian Wikipedia.

In the summer of 2024, the Armed Forces of Ukraine distributed leaflets in the Belgorod region calling on people to hang the “BNR” flags on their roofs to avoid attacks by the Ukrainian military. It is known that one of the residents of the village of Bezimeno responded to the call and painted the abbreviation “BNR” on the roof of his own house.
