The public discourse about "quick peace" has an extremely negative effect on the morale and psychological state of our army, said political scientist Mykhailo Basarab.
In his opinion, from the first days of a full-scale war, conversations on this topic had destructive consequences for both society and the army. Both then and now, the expert says, the expectation of a simple and quick end to the war ultimately demotivates Ukrainians both in the rear and on the front lines.
"We can assume with high probability that the intrusion into our information space about the "quick peace" is a well-planned special operation of the relevant services of the Russian Federation," says Basarab.
The political scientist emphasizes that Russia does not need peace at this stage of the war, the enemy is interested in discussions among Ukrainians about peace.
"And even if negotiations had begun, the Russians would have deliberately delayed them, continuing hostilities in order to destroy our ability to resist. Remember the Minsk agreements. The entire negotiation process around them was valuable for the Russians in itself, because while the war was going on, there was long, hopeless talk about peace, which can supposedly be achieved simply and quickly," says the political scientist.
According to him, the cessation of hostilities will be a key indicator of the likely start of real peace talks with Moscow.
"First, the cessation of hostilities on the part of the Russians, and then peace negotiations. And not first peace negotiations, and then the end of the war. "Real peace negotiations will begin only when the Russians will not be able to continue the war," Basarab is convinced.
