Ukrainians who use permanent driver's licenses may soon be required to replace their documents. The government has registered draft law No. 8082 in the Verkhovna Rada, which provides for significant changes in the validity period of driver's licenses, informs mAuto.

The legislative initiative provides for a reduction in the validity period of driver's licenses to 10-15 years. The new conditions will apply not only to new documents, but also to those that have already been issued, including permanent ones.

According to the proposed changes, drivers who accumulate a significant number of traffic violations during the period of validity of their license will be required to take re-exams to obtain an updated document.

It is noted that this initiative is part of the European integration reforms, which are designed to bring Ukrainian driver licensing rules closer to European standards. In EU countries, clear terms of validity of driver licenses are established, and their extension involves confirmation of driving knowledge and skills.

Whether this bill will be passed depends on the decision of the people's deputies. If it is approved, many Ukrainian drivers will have to not only update their documents, but also follow traffic rules even more carefully.
