In the final days of Bashar al-Assad's regime in Syria, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin ignored his pleas for help.
Bild writes about this with reference to the former head of the Syrian mass media, Kamel Sakr.
On November 27, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham began its offensive on Aleppo. Bashar Assad immediately flew to Moscow to meet with Putin and ask for military support. But, according to Sakr, the Russian dictator made him wait two whole days before meeting at the Four Seasons Hotel in Moscow. Moreover, on the day of the meeting, its time was postponed three times, and the conversation between the two dictators lasted only an hour.
Putin also made Assad understand that he does not want to make official statements about this meeting, in order to have as little as possible to do with the events in Syria.
According to the former head of the Syrian media, Assad had a very specific request for Putin: that he personally take care of air support for Iranian forces that could intervene in the situation. However, this request remained unanswered.
On November 30, Assad returned to Syria, the same day the strategically important city of Aleppo fell. In the following days, the front collapsed, and already on December 8, the rebels controlled the capital Damascus.
Although Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi visited Assad in Damascus on December 1, there was no military support from Iran either. Iranian militants were withdrawn from Syria a few months before.
Kamel Sakr says that Putin finally stopped answering Assad's calls on December 5. That's when the Syrian dictator realized that this was the end of his reign.
