Ford is preparing to revive the iconic Boss name for its model MustangAccording to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, the company has filed for a trademark for the name Boss, which could be used to create a powerful vehicle suitable for both roads and tracks.
The new “Boss” will join the seventh-generation Mustang, which already includes the Dark Horse and GTD versions. The Boss nameplate has previously been used on performance versions of the Mustang, starting in 1969 with the Boss 302, created to certify Ford’s participation in Trans Am racing.
The last appearance of the Boss dates back to 2012, when it was released an updated version of the Boss 302. Today, Ford is creating a new car that will occupy a niche between the Mustang Dark Horse and the exclusive GTD. In addition, a European application for the Dark Horse Boss trademark hints at the creation of an even more powerful version of the track car. Details about technical specifications and a release date have not yet been disclosed.
