There are many beautiful plants that fit perfectly into landscape design. But some of them are truly unique. A striking example of such a special plant is ceanothus. It is also called California lilac. This is a very beautiful shrub. Today there are more than 50 varieties of ceanothus.
Growing California lilac is not difficult at all. The main thing is to choose the right place. Areas that always have enough light will be ideal. The soil for ceanothus is also important. It is desirable that it be light and well-drained. That is, so that water does not stagnate and there is enough air near the roots.

There are so many varieties of California lilac that some can be large shrubs, while others can be grown as ground covers. Their flowering is also diverse. Some begin to bloom in spring, while others - in early summer or closer to autumn. What is common to most varieties is a long flowering period, so you will enjoy the beauty of ceanothus for a very long time.
Ceanotus likes moderate watering. On normal days, 2 times a week (about 7-8 liters) is enough. If it is hot outside, then it is worth watering the plant three times (9-11 liters for each bush). California lilac grows well even without fertilizing, but in the spring it is still advisable to add a little compost - this way it will bloom more magnificently.

Ceanothus will be a real decoration of any garden composition. It can be planted in groups, creating bright color zones, or used as a tapeworm - that is, a separately located plant. The bush looks especially impressive in combination with white roses or yellow daylilies.
The winter hardiness of ceanothus is low. Since winters in Ukraine have been quite warm in recent years, you can do without shelter. But for severe frosts, it is necessary, because the bushes may not withstand frost. California lilac is propagated in two ways: by cuttings (a faster and more economical method) or by seeds. If you choose seeds, keep in mind that some of its species require stratification or scarification.
