The Colombian leader initially refused to accept the planes on which the US sent migrants home, and after Trump's threats, he sent a personal plane to pick them up.
Colombian President Gustavo Petro has ordered a private plane to be sent to pick up migrants he had previously refused to accept, the president's official social media account X reported on Sunday, January 26.
The country's leadership took this step immediately after US President Donald Trump imposed a 25% tariff on all goods from Colombia and sanctions against this country for refusing to accept planes carrying deported migrants.
A document published on the Colombian president's account states that Gustavo Petro will send a presidential plane for the dignified return of his compatriots.
"The Colombian government, under the leadership of President Gustavo Petro, has organized a presidential plane to facilitate the dignified return of compatriots who were due to arrive in the country this morning on deportation flights. This measure is a response to the government's commitment to guarantee dignified conditions. In no way have Colombians been and will not be expelled from Colombian territory," the statement said.
