A mysterious fire at the Volgograd refinery has forced the shutdown of half of its diesel production capacity, Reuters reported, citing two oil industry sources.
The cause of the fire is still unknown, but its consequences were terrible for the plant.
“Everything has been put out. Hydrotreating has been stopped. It is not yet clear how long it will take to repair,” one of the sources said.
Another source said the fire broke out at Unit 18, one of two diesel hydrotreating units. The plant has a daily capacity of 9500 metric tons.
As The Moscow Times notes, the Volgograd Refinery is the largest producer of petroleum products in the Southern Federal District of the Russian Federation and one of the largest in Russia overall. Last year, it produced 1,9 million tons of gasoline (4,3% of all-Russian production), 6 million tons of diesel fuel (6,9% of all-Russian volumes), and 0,8 million tons of fuel oil (1,9%).
Drone strikes on Russian territory
As I wrote, last night Ukrainian drones attacked the Tambov Gunpowder Plant, which is one of the key facilities of the Russian military-industrial complex involved in the war against Ukraine.
Military observer Yevhen Dykyi notes that Ukraine is only beginning to significantly increase its strikes on military facilities in Russia. According to him, today Ukraine has managed to build a system of strikes that simultaneously uses both drones in large numbers and missiles.
