Syria's new interim government has announced a complete ban on the import of goods produced in Russia, Iran and Israel, Al Arabiya reports.

The publication notes that since the overthrow of the Bashar al-Assad regime, a flood of various imported goods has poured into Syria. In the capital Damascus, stores are filled with things that have not been seen here for a long time - from Turkish bottled water and Saudi food products to Western Snickers chocolate bars and Pepsi drinks.

In order to support the war-torn economy, the new government announced the permission to use the dollar and approved the simplification of customs duties, while simultaneously reducing them by 50-60%. The new authorities explained this decision by wanting to simplify the import of raw materials to support local producers and stimulate industry.

We also reported that the US eased sanctions against Syria after Assad was ousted. But this easing is temporary. Washington promises to see how the country's new government behaves.
