The current Toyota RAV4 debuted back in March 2018, and it's already known that the automaker is preparing a new generation. Just yesterday, it was reported that the crossover could debut in China, and now there's another confirmation.
One image, originally posted on the Chinese social network Weibo by several users and then picked up by other publications, may show the 4 RAV2026, which is set to debut later this year.
Users claim that the photo was taken at a dealer conference in China, where products from the GAC-Toyota joint venture were being discussed. This means that the crossover in the image could be the Wildlander (the Chinese equivalent of the Toyota RAV4).
The new 2026 Wildlander is set to debut at the Shanghai Auto Show in April, and will serve as a precursor to the new RAV4, which will hit the US, European, Japanese and Australian markets later this year.
The authenticity of the image is confirmed by spy photos taken during testing of the new RAV4 in prototype form. Although the crossover was covered in camouflage, the mirrors, door handles, expressive square arches and the raised side line at the base of the C-pillar perfectly match this shot of the Wildlander.
New details

The new image also highlights details that could not be seen on the test prototype.
In particular, the black sill trim cuts into the rear doors and combines with a clear line running down the middle of the door panels, creating the impression of a slimmer body. Camry with a colorful pattern and Toyota's latest C-shaped D-segment will give the next RAV4 much more expressiveness.

Inside, the new RAV4 is likely to adopt Toyota's modern dual-screen layout. The crossover will retain the existing TNGA-K platform with a heavy emphasis on hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains with longer ranges, potentially reaching 130km in the PHEV. The big question is whether Toyota will offer an electric version this time around.
