Cupra has confirmed that it will continue to produce Leon models with internal combustion engines for the next decade, but has also announced that the model will eventually become a fully electric vehicle.
The new electric car will be built on the Volkswagen SSP platform, which will underpin a number of future electric vehicles from the VW Group. Interestingly, this transition could also mean the end of the Seat-branded Leon.
When the electric Leon does arrive, it is expected to join Cupra's growing lineup of electric cars as the brand's fourth all-electric offering, alongside the Tavascan, Raval and Born.
According to Cupra CEO Wayne Griffiths, the existing model won’t be retiring anytime soon. He noted that the current Leon will be around “for the next decade.”

“The Cupra Leon and the Cupra Formentor are based on the same platform. We will extend them into the next decade. If we want to go into the next decade. We can expect a facelift or product improvements. But the next generation Leon will definitely be electric,” Griffiths said.
