Doctors' recommendations.
Walking barefoot has many advantages, but there are also disadvantages, Ukr.Media reports.
There are two types of people: those who walk around the house in slippers, and those who can't stand slippers. Doctors say the latter are right - walking barefoot is very good for your feet.
"This practice helps strengthen the muscles of the feet, which tend to weaken with age and wearing shoes. This leads to various pathologies related to mobility," says podiatrist Robert Conenello.
Walking barefoot also allows the skin to breathe, reduces the risk of fungal infections, and even helps you relax — the contact of the skin of your feet with the texture of the surface acts like a mini reflexology session.
But sometimes walking barefoot is harmful:
- When the floor is dirty and there is a chance of catching an infection;
- The likelihood of injuries if the floor is slippery or wet;
- When you have to walk on a hard surface for a long time, this can cause plantar fasciitis, an inflammation of the tissue that connects the heel bone to the toes;
- When you have to stand for a long time, for example, while cooking, foot fatigue occurs.
In addition, there are situations when it is simply dangerous for a person to walk barefoot. For example, if she has fungal diseases or foot infections, she risks spreading the infection around the house and becoming a source of infection for others. Doctors also do not advise walking barefoot for those who have circulatory disorders, diabetes or neuropathy. In such cases, even a minor injury can cause serious problems.
But there is a golden mean - socks. Absolutely everyone can wear socks, and it is much more useful than wearing slippers.
