On the night of January 11, a lunar halo was noticed in the sky over Pavlograd, Ternivka, and Shakhtarskyi. This is an optical illusion due to which the Moon is surrounded by a large bright ring.

This phenomenon occurs due to the refraction and reflection of the light of the Moon in the ice crystals found in the clouds at high altitude. Thanks to the same angle of refraction of light, a symmetrical ring is formed around the Moon.

A halo is usually observed when the Moon is bright and high in the sky.

In many cultures, the appearance of a lunar halo is believed to herald a change in weather, especially rain or snow, as this phenomenon is associated with the presence of cirrus clouds that usually precede atmospheric fronts.
