A forest restoration program is underway in the Rivne region after the amber "fever" of 2015-2018.

Over 60 hectares of territory have already been afforested in the Sarny Forestry Department, said Yuriy Bolokhovets, General Director of the State Enterprise "Forests of Ukraine".

In the forest areas on the territory of the Sarna Forestry District, soil mineralization is being carried out, and areas destroyed by motor pumps are gradually being recultivated.

“Foresters promote the natural renewal of vegetation, plant pine seedlings. Foresters leave the “wild” vegetation on the areas, it protects young pines from dust storms. Small trees are not yet visible from a great height, but in a few years this will be a completely forested area,” – wrote Yuriy Bolokhovets.

In the Sarna Forestry Department, over 60 hectares of “lunar landscapes” have already been afforested, and 20 hectares of sparse forest have been supplemented with plantings.

Areas where soil damage makes afforestation impossible are waiting for their turn. Some of these areas are designated for legal amber mining. In the Sarny region, this is approximately 100 hectares.

“In 2024, several isolated cases of attempted illegal logging were recorded. More than 20 pumps were seized. But the forest guards managed to prevent new damage to the forests. Not a single square meter of forest fund was lost,” – Bolokhovets concluded.
