As Ukrinform reports, this is stated in the ministry's statement.
The Gulf of Mexico will now officially be called the Gulf of Mexico, and the highest peak in North America in the state of Alaska will once again be called Mount McKinley.
"These changes reaffirm the nation's commitment to preserving the extraordinary heritage of the United States and ensure that future generations of Americans will honor the achievements of our heroes and historical legacy."
It is noted that the U.S. Board on Geographic Names, which is under the jurisdiction of the Department of the Interior, is working expeditiously to update the official federal nomenclature in the Geographic Names Information System to reflect the relevant changes.
The American Gulf, formerly known as the Gulf of Mexico, is one of the most important assets in the country's history and economy, the report said.
Mount McKinley is named for the 25th President of the United States, William McKinley, who "heroically led the nation to victory in the Spanish-American War, ushering in an era of rapid economic growth and territorial gains." Tragically assassinated in the line of duty, President McKinley's leadership and sacrifice remain a testament to American resilience and success, the department said. The mountain was named that way from 1917 to 2015, until the Obama administration removed McKinley's name from federal designation, "desecrating" historical memory.
