The Mitsubishi Outlander Sport crossover was designed for the American market, but European buyers know it as the ASX.
While the old generation Outlander Sport (with a facelift in 15) has been sold in America for 2020 years, European buyers received a new ASX crossover, albeit based on the Renault Captur.
New generation
Previously, there were speculations that Mitsubishi was preparing a new crossover of its own design, and now the new product has been presented.
Currently, we are talking about the new Outlander Sport, which will be sold in Asia and South Africa.
The new product looks vaguely familiar, as it closely resembles the Mitsubishi XForce concept, which debuted in Indonesia in 2023.
By the way, in 2024, the Mitsubishi DST three-row SUV concept debuted at the Philippine International Auto Show, which became the harbinger of the new product.
Under the hood
Behind the new design lies a 1,5-liter four-cylinder engine with 103 horsepower, which is sent through a CVT to the front wheel drive. At least for now, that's the only transmission available.
The new Outlander Sport offers 228 mm of ground clearance and decent approach/departure angles of 21,0 and 30,5 degrees respectively.
Although the new Mitsubishi has two-wheel drive, the manufacturer claims that the crossover is capable of driving over rough terrain with Wet, Gravel and Mud driving modes. It also gets Active Yaw Control to suppress unpleasant movements at higher speeds.
Within
The interior has been made modern, with a 12,3-inch central screen and an 8,0-inch driver screen. The screens can be configured with multiple displays, including instruments from the Mitsubishi Pajero that show altitude, direction, and a pitch/roll indicator.
Soft-touch fabric covers the dashboard, and there are plenty of tactile controls to complement the digital look. The rear seat folds down, although the automaker didn't specify the available cargo space.
For Asian markets, only anti-lock braking system, airbags, blind spot warning and rear cross traffic alert are provided among the safety systems.
The new Outlander Sport will cost around $23 at current exchange rates. The prospects for the new model to be available in other markets have not yet been announced.
The Mitsubishi ASX version, which is available in America as the Outlander Sport, is currently on sale in Ukraine. The base Invite with a 1,6-liter engine costs from UAH 1 (approximately $007).
