Fico could not get to Brussels
Air traffic in the airspace over Belgium was suspended due to technical problems.
A government plane carrying Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico was unable to land in Brussels due to the temporary closure of Belgian airspace, STVR reported on Thursday, January 30.
Belgium has restricted flights due to a technical failure in the country's air traffic control service. In connection with this, planes heading to Brussels were redirected to neighboring countries. "Due to a technical problem with air traffic control, air traffic is currently impossible," the Brussels airport website reported.
The plane carrying Fico was heading to Brussels for talks on gas supplies to Europe via Ukraine. It is currently unknown whether the planned talks on Thursday will take place or be postponed.
As is known, bilateral relations between Kyiv and Bratislava worsened after Ukraine stopped the transit of Russian gas through its territory to the EU, including Slovakia.
