In cases where there is a tendency to fluid retention and edema in the body, as well as with weak intestines, it is better to refrain from eating sauerkraut. A dietitian told us when this product may be contraindicated.
Some people are advised to completely eliminate sauerkraut from their diet. In cases of hypertension and diseases associated with impaired salt metabolism, sauerkraut should be consumed with extreme caution - first of all, you need to consider the amount of other products in the diet that contain salt.
Also, according to the nutritionist, sauerkraut should not be used by people with weak intestines, in which bloating, flatulence, burping and abdominal discomfort are common. In this case, dishes with sauerkraut can cause increased gas formation and painful colic.
"It is better to refrain from eating sauerkraut altogether during periods of exacerbation of digestive system diseases - gastritis, gastroduodenitis, peptic ulcer disease, and pancreatic diseases," the doctor shared.
At the same time, the expert noted, if a person with an irritated intestine or stomach has a stable remission and is not bothered by painful symptoms, sauerkraut can be consumed.
The doctor reminded women who have become mothers: sauerkraut is prohibited during breastfeeding, as it can cause colic in newborn babies.
