After purchasing eggs in a store, you absolutely cannot wash them, while before using them for cooking, you must, doctors said.

Experts said that although enterprises try to monitor the health of birds and staff, chicken eggs that go on sale may contain salmonella. The bacteria can get on eggs with traces of chicken droppings or through the dirty hands of food production workers. If hygiene is not observed, salmonella can also penetrate the body, causing salmonellosis - an infection that poses a threat to human life.

The doctor explained that in the initial stage, salmonellosis resembles a common intestinal infection, although severe intoxication and dehydration can occur later.

"At the first stage, people feel tired, have headaches, stomach aches, aches, weakness, and lack of appetite. Then vomiting and stomach pain usually develop, and the last symptom is loose stools," the doctor said about how the dangerous infection manifests itself.

Another expert, endocrinologist Natalia Sorokina, noted that salmonella is quite heat-resistant, and therefore eggs need to be cooked for a long time. The safest way to cook eggs is to fry them on both sides or boil them hard.

As for washing eggs, to prevent salmonellosis, it is imperative to rinse eggs with water immediately before cooking them, doctors emphasize.

Under no circumstances should you wash eggs immediately after purchasing them from the store and store them in the refrigerator. This will break the shell, and any remaining salmonella can enter the egg.
