Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, after a visit by opposition representatives to Kyiv, accused them of preparing a coup d'état and also threatened Ukraine with a veto on further financial assistance from the European Union, Pravda writes.

Fico reacted to the recent trip of the leader of the opposition Progressive Slovakia party, Michal Šimečka, to Kyiv, where he met with President Volodymyr Zelensky. In particular, the prime minister accused the opposition politicians of sycophancy, saying they "kissed Zelensky's ring" and "promised him support for Ukraine's NATO membership" if they came to power.

In addition, according to Fico, opposition representatives were in talks with the Ukrainian authorities about Slovakia's participation in the possible deployment of Western troops to Ukraine. And this is what he called "the most dangerous moment of the opposition's trip to Kyiv."

“The government I lead will never support Ukraine's membership in NATO, because it will only lead to World War III. The government will also never propose to send troops into Ukraine to turn weapons against the Russian Federation,” Fico said.

Meanwhile, the leader of Progressive Slovakia, Michal Šimečka, denied the Prime Minister's words about supporting Ukraine's NATO membership and called them a lie. He assured that this was not discussed during the visit.

Fico also reproached Zelensky for refusing to meet with him at the World Economic Forum in Davos, as Fico had suggested, to negotiate gas transit, which Ukraine suspended on January 1, 2025.

He threatened to respond to Zelensky's actions with "reciprocity," including vetoing further EU financial assistance to Ukraine, as its approval requires unanimity.

“Robert Fico is the Prime Minister of Slovakia, not a Ukrainian servant,” he said.

The Slovak Prime Minister also complained to German Chancellor Olaf Scholz about Ukraine. He called Zelensky's decision to suspend gas transit through Ukraine "significantly harms Slovakia and causes billions in losses to the entire European Union."

Zelenskyy was skeptical about Fico's idea of meeting in Davos. He said, in particular, that he could not plan anything in the case of Robert Fico, since he "may go to Davos, but will end up somewhere in Sochi."
