Many people eat right, exercise, and make sure they get enough sleep and water – but nothing happens. This can be quite destructive to motivation. Your body is probably giving you an additional problem – a slow metabolism. An endocrinologist from the US gives three important tips on how to increase your metabolic rate.
Elizabeth Lowden (Elizabeth Lowden), an endocrinologist from the "Center for Metabolic Health and Weight Loss" at the Delnor Hospital in the USA, told something about how to finally get rid of excess weight.
Concentrate on building muscle mass
Muscles are a very metabolically active tissue, because they consume energy every day, even during rest. You can benefit from this property when losing weight with a slow metabolism.
Dr. Lowden recommends starting strength training when you're halfway to your goal weight. At this point, your metabolism will be stimulated and accelerated again due to building muscle mass.
Watch your calorie deficit
When you are in a calorie deficit, your body may start to burn muscle mass but not fat. A calorie deficit signals your body to an emergency situation where it is low on energy. Your body tries to store fat during tough times.
"That's why it's important that you try to burn more calories than you consume, but at the same time give your body enough energy to function - hunger slows down your metabolism! I recommend saving about 250 calories a day to begin with," the doctor quotes.
Eat healthy fats and enough protein
Fats in the fight against kilograms are clearly allowed - if they are "good". Some foods, such as nuts or avocados, are high in unsaturated fatty acids. They are absorbed by the body much more slowly, which requires much more energy. It stimulates metabolism. But be careful with them. In particular, nuts can quickly become real "calorie traps" - everything is allowed in moderation.
