Rushing and lack of time force many to snack on the go. But doctors warn that the habit of eating while standing can be dangerous to your health.
Experts recalled the famous saying that in a standing position "more fits in". Indeed, when a person is sitting, their intestines rest against the stomach from below and thus reduce its volume, they explained. When a person stands, nothing like this happens and the stomach gets more opportunity to stretch. Thus, the feeling of satiety comes later, and more is eaten. As a result, the risk of gaining extra pounds increases.
People who are used to snacking on the go and standing, as a rule, do not eat first courses, but denser and heavier, including more unhealthy ones. At the same time, a person unconsciously swallows food faster, that is, chews it worse. Poorly chewed pieces injure the walls of the esophagus and stomach, contribute to indigestion. If a person also walks at the same time as eating, the process of moving food from the esophagus to the stomach is significantly accelerated, and this has a bad effect on stomach contractions, leading to disorders and diseases of the organ.
According to experts, eating while sitting sends signals to the brain that everything is done correctly. This does not happen when standing, which can serve as a prerequisite for the development of various eating disorders. To avoid this, you should eat slowly, in a calm environment, chewing your food thoroughly.
