Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson said that US President Joe Biden was allegedly not making decisions on his own a year ago. The speaker recalled in an interview how in January 2024 he met with Biden in the Oval Office and found out that the leader did not understand whether he had signed the law that worried Johnson or not, and what exactly the document was about.
Johnson claims that he was initially denied a meeting with the president, but was later granted one. However, instead of a one-on-one dialogue, as the speaker had expected, Johnson was met by other administration officials in Biden's office.
The speaker recalls that at the end of the conversation, Biden asked to leave them alone in the office for a few minutes. Then Johnson asked the head of state why he had stopped issuing permits for the export of liquefied gas to Europe, which is very worrying for the speaker's voters. According to the Republican, Biden began to deny signing the document, but immediately stated that he had signed the decree to study the consequences of the use of LNG, and not to ban new licenses.
Johnson said that he then “experienced fear and disgust” and realized that the United States had “serious problems.” Because the Republican realized: it is unclear who really runs the country, and who puts papers in front of the president for signature, if Biden is “not the boss” and does not know what he is signing. The speaker’s theory is that Biden agreed to appoint more left-wing progressives to key positions in exchange for his main competitors dropping out of the race.
