Biden leaves decision on TikTok ban in US to Trump - AP

US President Joe Biden will not implement a ban on the video platform TikTok, which was supposed to take effect the day before he leaves office on Monday, January 20, thus leaving the future fate of the app to President-elect Donald Trump.

As Ukrinform reports, this was reported by AP, citing its own sources.

According to a US official, the Biden administration is leaving the implementation of the law — and the potential application of the ban — to Trump’s discretion.

The publication recalls that Trump, while serving as US President during his first term, wanted to ban the app in the US due to "national security concerns."

However, Trump joined TikTok during his 2024 presidential campaign, and his team used the app to reach younger voters. He also promised to “save TikTok” during the presidential campaign, noting that the platform helped him win more young voters.

It is noted that last year, the US Congress, in an approved law signed by Biden, required the Chinese parent company ByteDance to sell TikTok by January 19, the day before the inauguration of the next president.
